This is a new group. We started in February so we are still "finding our feet". We all have different levels of French but we find that we can help each other and, although we want to learn, we do not take ourselves too seriously!
We have decided to give a theme for each meeting, in advance, which allows everyone to revise or learn relevant vocabulary (by which ever means suits them best).
May's meeting (15th) will again be at 10am at The Clockhouse.
The Theme for May is Les passe-temps (hobbies).
You may need to refresh your vocabulary on this subject - it is a long time since school French! We are not expecting a speech (indeed, we don't really want a long spiel) but do prepare for a conversation with others on the subject. Make sure that you can ask others questions as well as explain your own interests.
April's theme was "Les Vacances". This worked very well and we had fun as well as learnt about other people's good and bad times. The theme for March's meeting was "giving and receiving directions" plus different types of shops and shopping.
For those, like many of us who are fairly rusty in the use of the French language, the App "Translate" is fairly useful, but be warned, as there is no WiFi where we meet, you will need to remember what you looked up! Free learning programs are very helpful and available on the internet.
We do expect that those attending will have some French, even if it is just what they learnt for O level (most of us are too old to have done GCSEs)
Recommended for complete refreshing is Duolingo. Lawless French is good for all abilities. They also are invaluable for hearing the correct pronunciation (which you will only hear from a few of us!)
To register interest, please come and join us and see if you like us or contact Carol Mac via the Chairman We have set up a WhatApp group as contacting people about the change of March's date was difficult.
